My, What a Sports-Filled Weekend We Have…

This will be one of the most busy sports weekends locally as high school football and volleyball have to share the spotlight with the annual Ike Invitational for tennis and the Galveston Beach Run for cross country. Oh, there’s a big Saturday of college football that is highlighted by nationally-ranked Texas visiting Alabama in prime time.

Wednesday: The high school tennis schedule will have Clear Lake at Clear Brook and Dickinson at Clear Springs each starting at 3:00pm, while Brazoswood at Clear Falls starts at 3:45pm.

The one volleyball match on the slate has Pearland at Clear Creek beginning at 6:00pm.

The Astros and Rangers conclude their critical three game series with a 7:05pm start in Arlington. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest (Astros) and Bally’s Sportsnet Southwest (Rangers) each start their pregame shows at 6:30pm.

Thursday: A trio of high school football games are on the schedule with Clear Brook at Pasadena Memorial, Lamar at Clear Falls (Challenger/Columbia), and UANL Monterrey (Mexico) at Texas City (Victory Sportsnet broadcast) each kick off at 7:00pm.

Friday: A very busy night of high school football starts with Channelview at Clear Creek (CCISD Veterans Memorial), Klein Forest at Clear Springs (Challenger/Columbia), Dickinson at Pasadena Dobie, Fort Bend Kempner at Friendswood, Galveston Ball at Houston Madison, La Marque at Hitchcock (Clear Life Media Game of the Week), and Sam Rayburn at Santa Fe all begin at 7:00pm.

An equally active volleyball schedule has Houston Harmony at Hitchcock at 5:00pm, followed by Clear Brook at Clear Falls, Brazoswood at Clear Creek, and Clear Springs at Dickinson beginning at 6:00pm. Galveston Ball at Friendswood, La Porte at Santa Fe, and Manvel at Texas City each start at 6:30pm.

Texas City High School will play host to the annual Ike Tennis Tournament that will include the likes of Galveston Ball, Clear Springs and a host of other local programs competing in the two-day event.

Not to be outdone, the cross country schedule will Clear Brook, Galveston Ball, La Marque and Texas City among those competing in the Galveston Beach Run off East Pavillion. 

There are also two water polo matches as Clear Creek visits Clear Brook and Clear Lake faces Clear Falls. The girls’ match starts at 5:30pm, while the boys get underway at 6:45pm.

The Astros return home for a weekend set against a Padres team that has underachieved this season. Apple TV+ will provide coverage of the game at 7:10pm.

Saturday: Sam Houston State will host the Region III cross country preview that will see Clear Creek and Clear Springs among those in action. Meanwhile, Clear Falls is at Bear Creek Park to compete in the Strake Jesuit Invitational.

The college football schedule begins with #23 Texas A&M at Miami (Fla.)(KTRK-13) and TSU at Toledo (ESPN+) at 2:30pm, while Houston Christian at Western Kentucky (ESPN+), Houston at Rice (NFL Network), Alcorn State at Stephen F. Austin (ESPN+), Abilene Christian at Prairie View, and #11 Texas at #4 Alabama (ESPN) each starting at 6:00pm. Lamar at Louisiana-Monroe (ESPN+) each starts at 7:00pm.

AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will have the Padres at Astros beginning at 6:10pm. The pregame show begins at 5:30pm.
