Getting Caught up in the Draft

Weeks and months of mock drafts become reality on Thursday as the 2024 NFL Draft begins in Detroit. It is expected to be a quiet three days for local talent, as this will mark 10 years since Galveston Ball’s Mike Evans was selected in the first round by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The weekend also marks the conclusion of the high school baseball season as positioning in Districts 18-5A and 24-6A is still in play.

Wednesday: Clear Springs visits Friendswood as the area teams use the game as a tune-up for next week’s playoffs. Gametime is set for 4:30 pm.

The Astros will be under the lights at Wrigley Field against the Cubs beginning at 6:40pm. Space City Home Network begins coverage at 6:00 pm.

Thursday: All eyes will be on the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, which gets underway at 7:00 pm. The Texans will not have a pick in the opening round, while the Cowboys will begin with the 24th overall pick. The draft can be seen on KTRK13, ESPN and NFL Network. Rounds 2-3 will be held on Friday, while picks 4-7 will be held on Saturday.

It’s so long, Chicago for the Astros with a 1:20 pm start time against the Cubs. Space City Home Network begins coverage at 1:00 pm.

Friday: The final day of the high school baseball regular season begins at 6:00 pm with Dickinson at Clear Brook, Clear Falls at Clear Creek, La Marque at Brazosport and Galveston Ball at Texas City. Angleton at Santa Fe starts at 7:00 pm.

Texas City is the site of the District 18-5A tennis meet as the road to state begins. 

Saturday: The Astros will be in Mexico City for the first of two games against the Rockies beginning at 5:05 pm. Space City Home Network starts coverage at 4:30 pm with the pregame show.
