HUD Allocates Community Development Block Grants for Disaster Recovery
The State Action Plan for Hurricane Harvey has been published and approved for an initial $57.8 million allocation.
An additional Action Plan, for the allocation of $5.024 billion, the largest single allocation in history, was posted in the Federal Register on February 9, 2018 and approved by HUD on June 25, 2018.
To expedite the recovery process with these funds, the GLO will administer a number of programs including a multifamily recovery program, a repair reimbursement program and others that have not been available in the state following previous disasters. The GLO continues to encourage all impacted homeowners to keep their receipts for any repairs made on their home as they may be eligible for CDBG-DR funds in the form of reimbursements.
The GLO has partnered with University of Texas at Austin (UT) Researchers to develop a survey to assess regional needs of Hurricane Harvey victims. The survey, conducted by UT, will use various outreach methods including social media, phone calls, GLO websites, emails, and FEMA communication.
To date, the GLO estimates over $100 billion in unmet need in the state as a direct result of Hurricane Harvey and continues to work with our Federal Partners regarding the additional disaster recovery appropriations made in the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018.
