With two ground breakings in as many weeks happening in Texas City and the potential for a couple of dedications of completed buildings in July in Texas City and Galveston, it is pretty obvious that Bay Area Habitat for Humanity is on the move!

Partnering with Marathon Petroleum and Valero, will lead to two old style Wall Raisings, with volunteers from the companies coming out to raise the  frames on the walls of each new home. Even State Representative, Mayes Middleton recently made a donation to help Bay Area Habitat. All this is happening in Texas City in the very near future. Joining with Samaritan’s Purse and Galveston county Recovers has them busy restoring and replacing more than 50 mobile homes that have long since been only marginally habitable. Lots that have sat untouched for months are being scheduled and plans are in the making for some exciting events to come between now and next spring.

The opportunity to become involved in making a significant impact on both Harvey relief and providing affordable housing for our most vulnerable neighbors is varied and really exciting! There are volunteer opportunities at the bustling ReStore which has had such a positive impact on the communities most damaged by Harvey by supplying used and reduced price items most needed to repair their homes.

Recipients of a Habitat home, are required to invest in the home with “Sweat equity”. You can join in on a Habitat home build. You can sign up to volunteer for a single day, on a regular basis, or even get involved as your schedule allows. Come build with Habitat and see the difference volunteering can make.

Habitat is always looking for dedicated volunteers with leadership or construction skills, and the willingness to learn how to run a Habitat build site! You can help provide an affordable home to a family in need.

Administrative volunteers play just as important a role as our construction volunteers. Opportunities can range from stuffing envelopes and database entry to specialized projects and restocking first aid kits. No matter your skill set, here is a very real opportunity to make a very real difference ….. and feel really good while you are at it. Make some great  new friends, get some sun on your face and know that you made a difference is someone’s life. It doesn’t get much better than that!
