Our Blocker Middle School won the National SkillsUSA Championship in Robotics Urban Search & Rescue for the second year in a row in the middle school division. 8th graders Ty Clark and Rosendo Dominguez defended the National title by claiming another one for Blocker Middle School and TCISD. Their teachers are Stacy Richardson and James Jobe. See winners at https://skillsusa-register.org/rpts/EventMedalists.aspx In this event, students are given a real-world scenario that require problem solving and team work. The students create a mobile robot like those used by emergency service personnel (fire, police, military) to secure an area by locating, neutralizing, moving and disposing of explosive materials. This team placed 1st at the State SkillsUSA to represent Texas at Nationals.
In addition, our TCHS entrepreneurship team claimed the Bronze medal out of 31 teams for their business plan for HomeZoomers, a mixed reality real estate business. See winners at https://skillsusa-register.org/rpts/EventMedalists.aspx
3rd place out of 31 at Nationals SkillsUSA but received much more than that! While at Nationals, the students are making real contacts on how to implement their business. Camden apartment building based out of Houston wants our TCHS students to work with them and Boeing gave them their relocation service to contact. As Bronze winners, each student will receive a $20,000 Sullivan University, $50 cash, a Kindle Fire. In addition, an outside source from Lowe’s is sending them 2 Oculus Quests to add to their equipment. TCHS students Dasia Moore, CEO; Kristy Martinez, CTO; Corday Williams, CMO; and David Zelaya-Morales as CFO; created the business “HomeZoomers”. It uses Mixed Reality and Real Estate so that people can see a home virtually if not able to visit it in person. Their teacher is Terri Jacobs. This team placed 1st at the State SkillsUSA to represent Texas at Nationals.
