THE FUTURE TOOK ITS FIRST STEPS over the weekend, albeit in a backdrop of a present that was amplified during each high school graduation event throughout the area.
Covid-19 obviously dictated the need for social distancing, even in the case of bigger schools like Dickinson and each of the five Clear Creek ISD schools. Traditionally filled beyond capacity, attendance was muted as graduates were allowed a limited number of people able to attend in person. However, those who could not attend were able to follow along via internet streams.
Through it all, the Class of 2020 was all smiles. Despite having the last two months of their time in high school in perpetual isolation and using kitchen tables as the foundation of their virtual classroom, the culmination of their efforts was rewarded with the reception of diplomas.
For many, graduation is but one stop toward collegiate dreams that will begin this fall. Some will continue to be student-athletes in their chosen sports while others immediately took their first strides in finding gainful employment.
Life is indeed different, yet the Class of 2020 – like the graduating classes before it – comes into the summer filled with hope and optimism. In the troubled times we have faced, it is that hope and optimism that will continue its need to be nurtured and guided until the Class of 2021 takes its turn in the spotlight next June.
