The D.C.-bound Texas City High School students were welcomed with winter weather, which included snow. Beyond the weather for which they were prepared with cold-weather clothing, the students were welcomed by leaders in D.C.
Reporting back, they have had a wonderful visit in our nation’s capital, including meeting with U.S. Senator Ted Cruz and U.S. Congressman Randy Weber. Their time was also spent visiting historic sites, riding the metro system, and diving deeper into the issues they had selected before their trip, which were immigration, women’s rights, and inflation.

“One of the most meaningful parts of the experience has been seeing the students grow more confident in using their voices. They’ve been asking thoughtful questions, engaging with policymakers, and learning firsthand how civic dialogue works. Moments like these really bring the purpose of the Student Legislative Seminar to life,” said Talysa McCall, a director with the Institute for Civility, the organization responsible for coordinating the trip.

“It’s been exciting to watch them connect what they’ve learned in the classroom to real conversations happening in our nation’s capital,” said McCall.
Beginning their trip on Saturday, February 28, they are now heading back to Texas and will be ready to share what they have learned with the Texas City Rotary Club. Their trip was funded by the Texas City Rotary Club.
