TODAY, WEDNESDAY: Tom Herman brings Texas to NRG Stadium as the 6-6
Longhorns meet 7-5 Missouri in the Academy Sports+Outdoors Bowl beginning at
8:00pm. The game marks the second time in four years that UT ends its season in
Houston, having lost to Arkansas in the 2014 edition of the bowl, which was the last
time the Longhorns appeared in a bowl. Those who can’t attend the game in person
will be able to watch it on ESPN.
TOMORROW, THURSDAY: Most area boys basketball teams will be in tournament
action, with Galveston Ball traveling all the way to Pensacola, Fla. to take part in the
Emerald Coast Classic. Meanwhile, Clear Creek will participate in the Under Armour
Christmas Classic in Pasadena, while Clear Springs and Texas City will be at the
Brazoswood Holiday Tournament. State-ranked Dickinson will be one of the participants
at the James Gamble Classic in Port Arthur, while state-ranked La Marque will
be at the East Chambers Tournament.
On the girls hoops docket, Clear Brook will be at the Barbers Hill Tournament, while
Clear Springs is at the M.T. Rice Tourney in Waco. Galveston Ball is at the Brazosport
Tournament, while state-ranked Hitchcock joins La Marque and Texas City in the
Brazoswood Holiday Classic. There is also one non-district contest as Deer Park
visits Santa Fe at 1:00pm.
If the basketball slate isn’t busy enough, the biggest game of the NBA regular season
takes place as the Rockets visit the Celtics in a nationally-televised game on TNT
beginning at 7:00pm. Houston entered the week with the best record in the league,
while Boston owned the best record in the Eastern Conference.
FRIDAY: One high school basketball game is on the schedule, with Deer Park visiting
Clear Falls at 6:00pm, the same time the Rockets continue their east coast swing
with a trip to the Wizards. AT&T Sportsnet-Southwest will start its coverage with the
pregame show beginning at 5:30pm.
SATURDAY: With the calendar ready to flip into 2018, the start of high school girls
soccer season isn’t too far off. Texas City’s junior varsity and varsity squads will
host a tri-scrimmage with Clear Falls and George Ranch beginning at 10:00am. The
varsity matches will be at Stingaree Stadium, while the junior varsity contests will be
played at the TCHS Auxillary Field.
