HITCHCOCK’S Majesty Otems was selected as the District 24-3A girls basketball coplayer
of the year after the senior helped lead the Bulldogs to a 27-7 record and a trip
to the Region III semifinals. Otems had to share the honor with Makenzie Dorsett of
Danbury.
The Bulldogs had senior Taivionna Daniels, Taylor Kendrick and Irish Winn each earn
first team honors while senior Deasja Fury and sophomores Breanna Birdow and Jimile
Johnson were selected to the second team.
Despite winning just three games this season, La Marque was able to have a first team
all-district representative in the form of sophomore Krishauna Boyd. Cougars teammates
Crystal Curry and Saddie McKinney were both honorable mention selections.
In District 23-5A, Galveston Ball’s Bebe Galloway was named the player of the year following
a season that saw the sophomore help lead the Tors to their first playoff win in
school history. Sophomore Ari Smith was named the defensive player of the year while
Amanda King was selected as coach of the year.
Ball also had senior Nina Kovach named to the first team while senior Kaila Lee was
selected to the second team.
Junior Katie Lackey of Santa Fe was chosen to the first team and Indians teammate
Michelle Owens concluded her senior year with a nod on the second team.
Texas City sophomore Tahjea Smith was chosen to the second team, the lone representative
for the Stingarees.
