SIX AREA boys powerlifters advanced to the state championship meet, which will be
held be in Abilene on March 23-24.
Defending state champion Xavian Hampton of Hitchcock will seek a chance for a
repeat as he will compete in the 242-pound class while La Marque’s Russell Pickney
advanced in the 148-pound division.
Dickinson will have three representatives in Abilene. Pablo Cavazos will be in the
114-pound class while the Gators duo of Daniel Parr and Joe Rodriguez each chase
state glory in the 220-pound class. Santa Fe’s Tyler Ray will be in the 242-pound class.
For Cavazos, the trip to state is his second straight. The senior finished in the upper
class of the 114-pound field in last year’s state title.
