DEPENDING ON GOD-PSALM 127

When will we accept the fact that we need to depend on a loving God? My question to you this month is Who do you depend on? For your Provision and Protection (Psalm 127:1-2) Almost every week, I find that the Lord has some purpose in our lives. He is speaking to us from these texts. I don’t believe God puts negative circumstances, sickness, financial problems or personal trouble in our paths. He allows them to appear as challenges; and lessons; where we need the truths of the text in our own lives to experience them, learn from them, and apply them. When will we accept the fact that we need to depend on a Loving God? Ps 127:1 A Song of Ascents. By Solomon. Unless Yahweh builds the house, They labor in vain who build it. Unless Yahweh watches over the city, The watchman guards it in vain. Ps 127:2 It is vain for you to rise up early, To stay up late, Eating the bread of toil; For he gives sleep to his loved ones. Psalms 127:1 reads, “Unless the Lord builds the house, those who are building their houses without Him labor in vain. “ We work hard to maintain our place of residence, but there is a tendency to put our trust in our next paycheck rather than putting our trust in the Lord. Only He can orchestrate the events that enable us to keep a roof over our heads. There is little doubt the Lord brought this scripture to life so we can appreciate the truth of where our blessings come from. Many of us know that when we fix our attention on a house with a nice piece of property there are requirements we have to meet to be able to get that house. God is reminding us that unless we depend on Him, we only face the frustration of our unfulfilled desires. “Unless the Lord builds the house.” I’ve heard the voice of God asking me a question that has come to be the key sentence for this message: “When will we accept the fact that we must depend on a Loving God?” Maybe God wants to ask you the same question today about the circumstances or uncertainties you face. “When will you accept the fact that you must depend on a Loving God?” Provision and Protection (Psalm 127:1-2) 2 Chronicles 2:6 “But who is able to build a temple for him, since the heavens, even the highest heavens, cannot contain him? Who then am I to build a temple for Him?” Solomon remembered what his father David had taught him, that everything we have comes from God. It was the Lord who provided everything needed to build the temple: supplies, skills, plans, peace, and perseverance. The Bible teaches that it is the Lord who supplies everything needed for anything that could be called ‘building.’ The prophets teach us that he himself built the universe as a building of his own design. He is building history by tearing down the edifices of the wicked while building up his kingdom. Job says “Behold He tears down and it cannot be rebuilt.” But in Jeremiah God promises, “My eyes will watch over them for their good . . . I will build them up and not tear them down; I will plant them and not uproot them.” Accordingly, anyone who builds without the blessing of the Lord builds ‘in vain’. A false foundation, built on our own sand instead of the Lord’s rock, always causes the house to fall, and the same is true of every part of the house. We could always say “Unless the Lord builds the house, whatever we built is going to be pretty bad.” How do we apply this to our lives? We should look at every area of life and ask “Am I trying to do the building here, or am I depending on God for this building?” The first and most significant area to think about is salvation itself. CONCLUSIONS Every one of God’s attributes drives us to the point of commitment. We are reminded that our God is a great God. God’s unchanging character is a truth that brings comfort, strength, stability, and a new sense of wonder. Look at our four attributes: 1. Because God is omnipresent it means He is here. 2. Because God is omniscient it means He understands what is going on in your life 3. Because He is omnipotent it means He can help. 4. And because He is immutable it means this will never change. No matter where you are in the journey or what you are currently going through . . . our Lord can help you. He is the one who can make you new. He is the one who will stand with you through any situation. He is the one you can trust. And He is the one you have been looking for and dreaming of. His arms are open. Draw close so He can wrap you in His love. There is no better place in the world to be.
