Dixie Swim Club,” a hilarious and touching comedy about friendships that last forever, opens Nov. 9 at the Bay Area Harbour Playhouse in Dickinson and will run thru Nov. 18. The play, written by the popular playwright team of Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, and Jamie Wooten, focuses on four reunion weekends that span thirtythree years in the life of five Southern women whose friendships began many years ago on their college swim team. Director Kaira Jackson has a talented cast portraying the friends who meet each summer at the beach, free from husbands, kids, and jobs, to catch up, laugh, and meddle in each other’s lives. As their lives unfold and the years pass, these women increasingly rely on one another, through advice and raucous repartee, to get through the challenges (men, sex, marriage, parenting, divorce, aging) that life flings at them. Julie Owen plays the spunky team captain who continues to be the team leader. Her teammates include Susan Hamel (a wisecracking overachiever); Bonnie Richeil (a pampered and outspoken three-time bride); and Coleen Reyes (a lady just sweet and eager-toplease). Joanna Alexander,’s character just gives in and embraces the chaos. When fate throws a wrench into one of their lives in the second act, these friends rally ‘round their own with strength and love that takes this comedy in a poignant and surprising direction. Performances will be on the downstairs Main Deck stage on Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the theatre at 3803 Highway 3 in Dickinson.
