Friendswood’s girls swim team places third in state meet
FRIENDSWOOD’S girls’ swimming team finished an impressive third place in last weekend’s state 5A finals at the Lee and Joe Jamail Swim Center at the University of Texas, finishing with a total of 150 points, just behind the 186 points of state champion Montgomery and Magnolia’s 159.
The relay quartet of Allie Hansen, Allison Proulx, Lezli Sisung and Oliva Theall were the highlight of the Mustangs’ effort, finishing second in both the girls’ 200-yard freestyle (1:37.48) and girls’ 400-yard freestyle (3:33.90). Theall also delivered on an individual basis, as the senior placed second in the girls’ 100-yard butterfly with a time of 54.27 while also finishing fifth in the girls’ 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.51.
Sisung ended the weekend with a third-place finish in the girls’ 100-yard butterfly with a time of 56.05.
The Mustangs’ boys’ team finished a solid 12th overall with 71 points. Max Hardt finished second in the boys’ 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 56.77, while Josh Haffelder won the consolation round in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.31). Gabriel Costa finished eighth in the boys’ 1-meter dive with a total of 336.65 points.
In the 6A meet, both Clear Falls and Clear Creek finished in the top 20, with the Knights placing 15th with 42 points and the Wildcats placing 16th with a total of 41 points.
Clear Falls’ Vincent Huang finished fourth in the boys’ 100-yard breaststroke (56.10). Creek’s Timothy Holt finished second in the boys’ 50-yard freestyle in a time of 20.98, while Holt was part of a 200-yard freestyle relay team – that included Jacob Bulseco, Peter Horton and Marc Jardin – which finished second in the consolation with a time of 1:26.17. Bulseco placed eighth in the boys’ 100-yard freestyle with a time of 46.40.
Clear Creek’s Cory Shanks finished sixth in the girls’ 200-yard freestyle (1:51.30).
