Golfers bid to swing for it all in 5A Region III meet
THE BEST OF 5A, REGION III meet on the golf course in Montgomery with a chance to advance
to next month’s state championships in Georgetown. The two-day event is the highlight to the
start of the week that also sees the Astros returning to Minute Maid Park and the Rockets
standing on the brink of advancing one step closer to the NBA Finals.
Sunday: The Astros turn to Collin McHugh (3-1, 1.96 ERA) for the Easter Sunday start at the
Rangers in a game that concludes the team’s three-city, eight-game road trip. Texas gives the
ball to Shelby Miller (0-1, 9.00 ERA) when the first pitch comes down at 2:05pm. Both AT&T
Sportsnet (Astros) and Fox Sports Southwest (Rangers) will broadcast the game, with each
starting its pregame shows at 1:30pm.
Monday: A trip to the state high school golf championships await the duffers of 5A, Region III as
the first round of play at the Golf Club at Torretta in Montgomery. Those who advance will
compete for the title at White Wing Golf Club in Georgetown, with the girls’ tourney held on
May 13-14 and the boys teeing off on May 20-21.
There is one high school baseball game on slate as Clear Falls visits Katy in a non-district
matchup beginning at 6:00pm.
Wade Miley (1-2, 3.32 ERA) gets the “welcome home” start for the Astros, who open a seven-
game homestand against the Twins starting at 7:10pm. Jake Odorizzi (1-2, 4.76 ERA) will get the
nod for Minnesota. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest starts its coverage at 6:30pm with the pregame
show.
The Rockets could be in position to close out the Jazz in Game 4 of the Western Conference
Quarterfinals series. Houston won the first two games of the series by a combined total of 52
points before heading to Utah for Game 3 on Saturday night. TNT will have the national
coverage beginning at 9:30pm while AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will begin its coverage with the
pregame show at 9:00pm.
Tuesday: The final Tuesday of the high school baseball season begins at 6:00pm with Clear Lake
at Clear Brook, Clear Springs at Clear Creek and Alvin at Dickinson. Friendswood at Baytown
Lee, La Marque at Columbia, Galveston Ball at Goose Creek Memorial, Crosby at Santa Fe and
Galena Park at Texas City each start at 7:00pm.
Brad Peacock (2-0, 3.94 ERA) seeks to remain unbeaten when he takes the mound for the
Astros in the middle game of the series against the Twins beginning at 7:10pm. Minnesota will
counter with Michael Pineda (2-1, 5.30 ERA) shortly after AT&T Sportsnet Southwest completes
its pregame show at 6:30pm.
