Feeling Minnesota: Astros visit Twins on first step to World Series

THE ASTROS ARE IN the underdog role as the road to the World Series begins. The weekend kicks off with a huge slate of high school football and two days of high school volleyball throughout the area.

Wednesday: Game Two of the American League Wild Card Series between the Astros and Twins is scheduled for 12:00pm on ESPN2. Each of the best-of-three series will be played at the higher seed, giving Minnesota the homefield edge.

Thursday: If necessary, Game Three of the Astros-Twins AL Wild Card Series will be played with a time to be determined.

Friday: A busy first Friday in October will see a high school football schedule that will see Clear Brook at Friendswood, Clear Creek at Deer Park, Pasadena Memorial at Clear Falls (Challenger), Clear Springs at Katy Tompkins, Ridge Point at Dickinson, Galveston Ball at Texas City (game can be listed to on the Victory Sports Network beginning at 6:50pm) and Baytown Lee at Santa Fe each starting at 7:00pm.

The high school volleyball slate starts with Stafford at La Marque beginning at 5:30pm, followed by Clear Falls at Clear Brook, Clear Creek at Dickinson, Clear Lake at Clear Springs, Friendswood at La Porte and Van Vleck at Hitchcock at 6:00pm. Manvel at Galveston Ball and Baytown Sterling at Texas City are 6:30pm starts.

Clear Brook and Galveston Ball will be among the cross-country teams participating at the Pearce Invitational at Pasadena Memorial Park beginning at 7:00am. Meanwhile, Clear Creek and Texas City are among the teams competing at the Alvin Freedom Run, which will be held at Iowa Colony’s Freedom Field.

Saturday: There is a full slate of high school volleyball, starting with Galveston Ball at Baytown Sterling and Texas City at Santa Fe beginning at 4:00pm. Clear Brook at Clear Creek, Clear Springs at Clear Falls and Dickinson at Brazoswood each begin their matches at 6:00pm.

In cross-country, Clear Falls and Clear Springs are among the schools participating at the George Ranch Invitational.

The college football schedule kicks off with TCU at #9 Texas at 11:00am, followed Houston Baptist at Eastern Kentucky at 2:00pm (ESPN3), with #13 Texas A&M at #2 Alabama (KHOU-11, 2:30pm) and West Texas A&M at Stephen F. Austin beginning at 4:00pm.
