
THERE’S PLENTY AT stake as the weekend approaches, starting the Astros meeting the Athletics in the American League Divisional Series. District play continues for high school football teams across the area while 6A high school volleyball teams continue their Friday/Saturday twin bills.
Wednesday: The Astros play the role of “home team” in Game 3 of their American League Divisional Series against the Athletics beginning at 2:35pm. Neither team has made an announcement regarding who will get the start. The game will be broadcast nationally on MLB Network.
Thursday: There’s one high school football game on the schedule as Brazoswood meets Clear Creek at Challenger/Columbia Stadium beginning at 6:00pm.
Texas City plays host to the October Classic, a high school cross-country event that will be held on Bay Street beginning at 8:00am.
If necessary, Game 4 of the Athletics-Astros ALDS will be played at 2:35pm. TBS will have the national broadcast of the game.
Friday: The high school football schedule kicks off with Clear Brook at Clear Lake (Challenger/Columbia), Clear Falls at Dickinson, Baytown Lee at Friendswood, Galveston Ball at Goose Creek Memorial, Sweeny at La Marque (Game can be heard on Victory Sports Network) and South Houston at Santa Fe each beginning at 7:00pm. Hitchcock at Columbus kicks off at 7:30pm.
In high school volleyball, Clear Brook at Dickinson, Clear Lake at Clear Creek, Clear Springs at Brazoswood and Hitchcock at Houston Harmony start their matches at 6:00pm. Manvel at state-ranked Friendswood, Galveston Ball at Texas City, Sweeny at La Marque and Goose Creek Memorial at Santa Fe each begin at 6:30pm.
The cross-country slate will include Clear Brook participating in the Goehring Invitational in South Houston, while Clear Creek and Clear Springs will take part in a meet hosted by Clear Falls at the League City Sports Complex.
If necessary, Game 5 of the Athletics-Astros ALDS will be played at 2:35pm. TBS will have the national broadcast of the game.
Saturday: There is high school volleyball on the schedule with Clear Brook at Dawson starting at 12:00pm. Clear Creek at Clear Falls and Clear Springs at Dickinson each begin at 1:30pm.
The high school football schedule comes to an end when Fort Bend Elkins visits Clear Springs at Challenger/Columbia Stadium at 6:00pm.
In college football, #4 Florida visits #21 Texas A&M (ESPN) and #22 Texas meets rival Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl (Fox-26) at 11:00am. Angelo State at Stephen F. Austin gets underway at 4:00pm.
