“Stephen Brueggerhoff has been named the new Galveston County Texas A&M AgriLife
Extension Service Agent for Horticulture,” according to Eric Zimmerman, District Extension
Administrator, and the Galveston County Commissioners Court. Mr. Brueggerhoff will assume his new duties on October 1, 2021.
Brueggerhoff earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Horticulture from Sam Houston
State University and a Master of Forestry Resources from the University of Washington.
During his professional career, Mr. Brueggerhoff served in various educator roles that
include the Public Programs Manager for the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center to the
Outreach Program Coordinator for the Environmental Science Institute in Austin, Texas.
Prior to those positions, he worked for the City of Seattle and the University of Washington.
Stephen has been an employee of AgriLife Extension since 2011 and is currently the County
Extension Agent for Horticulture in Brazoria County. He has held this position since 2016.
Mr. Brueggerhoff is a member of the
Texas County Agricultural Agents Association and serves as the District 9
Treasurer. He is also a member of Epsilon Sigma Phi, the Houston Area Urban Forestry Council, the International
Society for Arboriculture and the Texas
Nursery and Landscape Association.
Mr. Brueggerhoff will assume the position that was previously held by the
late Dr. William Johnson, who served
Galveston County for over 30 years.
“Stephen is looking forward to working with the outstanding volunteers in
Galveston County and coordinating a
well-rounded horticulture program. He
brings a wealth of knowledge to the table and is excited to serve in this role,”
said Zimmerman.
