Galveston County now has three new members of the National Football League following the league’s annual draft, which concluded on Saturday.

Sam Houston State defensive back Zyon McCollum was selected in the fifth round (157th overall) by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, pairing him with fellow Tors alum and Pro Bowl wide receiver Mike Evans. Twin brother and fellow Sam Houston State defensive back Tristian McCollum was one of the first players the Houston Texans signed following the draft as a priority free agent.

The additions of the McCollum twins now gives Galveston Ball a total of 27 players who have appeared in the NFL, the most of any high school in the state of Texas and one of the highest numbers among high school football programs across the United States.

Texas A&M star tight end Jalen Wydermyer wasn’t among the 262 players selected, but the Dickinson alum did not have to wait too long to find an NFL team to call home as the Buffalo Bills, who had hosted Wydermyer before the draft, added him as a priority free agent.

Dickinson’s Jordan Myers, who played a variety of positions during his time at Rice University, had not been picked up by an NFL team as of Monday, but the chance exists that Myers could also receive a phone call from one of the nine Canadian Football League teams.
