TEXAS CITY, TX – Mayor Dedrick Johnson is encouraging the community to keep pedaling to a
healthier future, inviting residents to join him for a 9.7-mile community bike ride, the final event in
the mayor’s Movement is Medicine initiative.
The bike ride will be held this Saturday, Nov. 22, starting at 9 a.m. at Rainbow Park in Texas City.
The route will take participants on a relaxed ride through many different areas of town, ending back
at Rainbow Park.
The total route is 9.7 miles, but a shorter route (about 3.5 miles) is also available. There will also be
a rest stop and short break at the Doyle Convention Center along the way.
Participation in the bike ride is free. Riders must be at least 14 years old, and all minors (17 and
under) must be accompanied by a riding adult. Helmets and reflective/bright clothing are
recommended. Electric bikes are prohibited.
The bike ride also serves as the final event in Mayor Johnson’s 2025 health initiative, “Movement is
Medicine,” which also included events like line dancing, a 3K walk, an indoor fitness day, aquatics
and more.
With benefits like increasing energy levels, improving sleep quality, reducing anxiety and helping to
prevent injury and disease, the impact that movement can have on health is significant.
“Movement is Medicine is an initiative to remind everyone of the benefits of physical activities,”
Mayor Johnson said. “Even minimal exercise helps cardiovascular health, strengthens muscles,
reduces the risk of chronic disease, and reduces stress. A healthy community is a happy
community!”
