Plenty for sports fans to consume before Easter
ALL OF THE HIGH SCHOOL schedule will be crammed into Wednesday and Thursday as Easter
Weekend arrives.
Wednesday: Any Texas City ISD student that wants to get a physical for the 2019-20 school year
can get one today. The physicals will be given at the main gym of Texas City High School and will
be given from 3:20pm to 5:30pm. For more information, call TCISD head trainer John Hill at

Texas City High School’s basketball and powerlifting banquet will be held at the Wings of
Heritage Room in the Nessler Center beginning at 6:00pm, while the Stinagrees’ swimming and
water polo banquet will be held at the Showboat Pavilion beginning at 6:00pm.
Following an impressive 122-90 rout of the Jazz in Game 1 of the Western Conference
Quarterfinals, the Rockets will seek to make it a 2-0 lead when the teams face off at Toyota
Center starting at 8:30pm. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will have coverage of the game starting
with the pregame show at 8:00pm, while TNT will have the national broadcast.
The Astros complete a brief two-game swing at the Athletics beginning at 9:07pm. Wade Miley
(1-1, 3.45 ERA) takes the mound for Houston, with Oakland countering with Aaron Brooks (2-1,
4.24 ERA). AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will have the game (territorial restrictions pending)
beginning with the pregame show at 8:30pm.
Thursday: The final two high school softball games of the regular season will be played as La
Marque visits Bay City at 5:00pm, followed by Van Vleck at Hitchcock at 5:30pm.
The high school baseball schedule starts with Clear Brook at Alvin, Clear Creek at Clear Falls,
Clear Lake at Clear Springs and Baytown Lee at Galveston Ball each beginning at 6:00pm. La
Marque at Bay City, Van Vleck at Hitchcock and Texas City at Santa Fe are each 7:00pm starts.
The next step toward the state track and field finals will occur in the form of area meets.
District 22-5A will square off against District 21-5A at Barbers Hill High School, while the best of
District 24-6A takes on District 23-6A at Challenger/Columbia Stadium in League City.
The regional round of the state tennis postseason is also on the slate, with the 6A, Region III
meet will be held at Deer Park High School. Meanwhile, the 5A, Region III meet will take place
at Blythe Calfee Tennis Center in Willis.
Friday: Justin Verlander (2-0, 3.52 ERA) gets the call for the Astros in the opening game of a
three-game series at the Rangers. Texas will put lefty Drew Smyly (0-1, 7.15 ERA) on the mound
when the state rivals go at it beginning at 7:05pm. It’s a double-dip as both AT&T Sportsnet
Southwest (Astros) and Fox Sports Southwest (Rangers) will have the broadcast with each
starting their pregame shows at 6:30pm.
Saturday: The Astros will give the ball to Gerrit Cole (1-2, 3.24 ERA) in the middle game of the
weekend series at the Rangers starting at 7:05pm. Brownwood High School alum Shelby Miller
(0-1, 9.53 ERA) takes the mound for Texas. Both AT&T Sportsnet Southwest and Fox Sports
Southwest will start their coverage with pregame shows at 6:30pm.
The Rockets play the role of guests when they visit the Jazz in Game 3 of the Western
Conference Quarterfinal series. ESPN and AT&T Sportsnet Southwest will each have the game,
with the latter starting its coverage with the pregame show at 9:00pm.
