
The first days of September will be active as the CCISD and Santa Fe Varsity Volleyball Tournaments are also surrounded by Week 2 of high school football. However, the biggest piece of the sports weekend arrives as the start of the 2022 college football season swings into action as local and state programs finally stop talking and start hitting.
Wednesday: The Astros conclude the two-game set at the Rangers at 1:05pm. Both AT&T Sportsnet Southwest (Astros) and Bally’s Sports Southwest (Rangers) start their pregame shows at 12:30pm.
Thursday: The annual CCISD Volleyball Tournament will have each of the school’s five school teams in action on both today and Saturday. It will be the same at the Santa Fe Varsity Tournament, which will also see Dickinson and Galveston Ball participating.
The evening does have one high school football game as Houston Wheatley takes on host La Marque at 7:00pm (game can be heard on Victory Sports Net).
There’s also college football as Lamar travels to Abliene Christian at 7:00pm. The game can be watched on ESPN+
Friday: Week 2 of the high school football regular season gets going with Baytown Lee at Clear Brook (Challenger/Columbia), Deer Park at Clear Creek (Veterans Memorial), Clear Falls at Summer Creek, Clear Springs at Shadow Creek, Ridge Point at Dickinson, and Galveston Ball at Texas City each kicking off at 7:00pm. East Bernard at Hitchcock and Santa Fe at Vidor are both 7:30pm kickoffs.
In high school volleyball, Clear Brook at Deer Park, Kingwood at Clear Springs and Dickinson at St. Agnes each start at 5:30pm. Friendswood at Foster and La Marque at Galveston O’Connell both begin at 6:00, with Beaumont United at Galveston Ball beginning its match at 6:30pm.
La Marque’s cross-country team participates in the Run With the Wolverines meet hosted by Clear Brook at Resoft Park. Santa Fe and Texas City are among the teams taking part in the Trojan Invitational at South Houston High School.
The Astros visit the Angels in the first of a weekend set that starts at 8:38pm. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest starts coverage at 8:00pm with the pregame show.
Saturday: The first full Saturday of college football season begins with Sam Houston State at #6 Texas A&M at 11:00am (SEC Network), followed by #24 Houston at Texas-San Antonio at 2:30pm (CBS Sports Network) and Houston Baptist at Northern Colorado at 3:00pm (ESPN+). Rice visits #14 USC at 5:00pm (PAC-12 Network), with Stephen F. Austin at Alcorn State and Texas Southern at Prairie View (ESPN+) starting at 6:00pm. The day concludes with Louisiana-Monroe at Texas at 7:00pm (Longhorn Network).
Game 2 of the weekend series at the Angels await the Astros at 8:07pm, with AT&T Sportsnet Southwest starting the pregame show at 7:30pm.
