WHAT:  The American Red Cross Texas Gulf Coast Region is honoring Natalie with a Lifesaving award for saving a life in Missouri City. This past March, Natalie was in a situation where her Red Cross training came into use. While she was conducting yard work her elderly neighbor offered his assistance. After a short time of working in the front yard her neighbor began stating he needed to “catch his breath.” He sat down to drink some water and cool off; Natalie could not hear him anymore and when she went to check on him, she noticed that he was lying on the ground unconscious. This is when Natalie’s CPR training kicked in and the Check-Call-Care emergency steps were activated. Natalie immediately recognized that her neighbor was in cardiac arrest. She provided compressions-only CPR for 6 straight minutes. Despite being weary, Natalie continued to provide CPR to her neighbor, wanting to him the best chance at surviving. EMS finally arrived, assumed care of the neighbor, and transported him to the hospital where he continues to recover.

“We’re extremely proud to present the Lifesaving Award for Certificate of Merit to Natalie, this award is signed by our President Joseph R. Biden Jr.” said Shawn Schulze, Regional Chief Executive Officer for the American Red Cross Texas Gulf Coast region.  “Natalies’s fast thinking and actions exemplify our mission to help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.”

We invite you to come out and help us honor our hero!
