MINUTE MAID PARK will be home for the Astros for a long, long time.
The Houston Sports Authority announced on Monday that they would renew the lease of Minute Maid Park to the Astros through the end of the 2050 season. The lease was originally scheduled to conclude after the 2030 season, but HSA had no problems extending the stay at Minute Maid Park for the defending World Series Champions.
“The Astros look forward to furthering our investment in downtown Houston and calling Minute Maid Park our home through 2050,” said Astros owner and chairman Jim Crane. “We appreciate the commitment of the Harris County – Houston Sports Authority to keep the Astros in the heart of downtown, and we remain committed to making the fan experience at Minute Maid Park first class.”
The Astros’ rent payment will increase to $8.1 million, with much of going to the annual $2.5 million capital improvment fund.
Houston is playing at Minute Maid Park through Sunday afternoon, where they will begin the All-Star Break. The Athletics are in town for games on Wednesday night and Thursday afternoon, while the Tigers visit Houston on Friday night and Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
