SIX AREA HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL players achieved childhood dreams on Wednesday when each standout signed a letter of intent to continue their education while also playing on a collegiate level.

Texas City High School senior Mya Holmes committed to the University of Texas, giving the Longhorns the nation’s top overall prep outfielder. Holmes is ranked among the top 100 players in the Class of 2021 and comes off a summer where she hit .415 while adding eight homers and 51 runs batted in.

“Mya has tremendous range in the outfield and has a cannon for an arm,” said Texas softball head coach Mike White. “She’s very athletic, possesses good speed and a powerful bat.”

Five members of the Santa Fe High School softball team also signed letters of intent, headlined by power-hitting catcher Rylie Bouvier, who signed with Baylor University.

Bouvier ranks among the state’s top high school backstops and will enter next spring seeking a third straight all-district 22-5A roster spot along with adding to her 13 career homers and 85 RBI.

“Rylie can play anywhere on a high level,” said Baylor softball head coach Glenn Moore. “She is a late-rhythm hitter which always makes her a tough out.”

Texas State was able to get the services of Santa Fe’s Ciara Trahan, who, like Holmes, ranks among Extra Innings Elite Softball’s top 100 for the 2021 class. Trahan is a two-time all-district outfielder whose speed and range caught the eye of Bobcats coach Ricci Woodard.

“Ciara will be a fun player to watch in our lineup,” said Woodard. “Ciara is expected to add more speed to the top of the lineup and help track down balls. We can’t wait to watch Ciara as a Bobcat!”

Fielding whiz Reese Reyna will work her magic at McNeese State once she finishes at Santa Fe. Reyna will enter her fourth year on varsity and will seek a second district defensive player of the year honor this spring.

“ “Reese is an exceptional defensive player with both quick hands and great athletic ability,” said Cowgirls coach James Landreneau. “She has played on a very competitive travel team which leads to her several runners-up accomplishments against very good ball teams. We are excited to see what Reyna can bring to our team both defensively as well as at the plate.”

Santa Fe’s impressive senior class is capped off by versatile Kailey Jones, who will display her talents at nearby Alvin Community College. Jones, who can play both catcher and third base, has also shined for Impact Gold Cothren, her summer league team.
