THERE’S PLENTY TO BE THANKFUL for when it comes to the holiday
sports schedule, which is highlighted by both the Texans and Cowboys
playing on Thanksgiving Day. There’s also high school football and basketball on the slate, giving fans a reason to get out of the house.
WEDNESDAY: Only one high school boys’ basketball game is on the schedule
as Texas City visits Hitchcock for a 2:00pm tip.
THURSDAY: For the first time since 2012, both the Texans and Cowboys will
play on Thanksgiving Day, with Houston starting the day with an 11:30am kickoff at Detroit. The Texans’ only other Thanksgiving appearance was against the Lions in 2012 when they recorded a 34-31 victory behind 102 rushing yards and two touchdowns from Arian Foster. KHOU-11 will have the live coverage.
Continuing a tradition that started in 1966, the Cowboys will host a Thanksgiving Day game as the Washington Football Team comes to AT&T Stadium. Dallas is 30-21-1 lifetime on Turkey Day and will seek to defeat Washington for a third straight time in the traditional contest. Fox-26 will air the game live beginning at 3:30pm.
FRIDAY: The high school football schedule starts early with Clear Falls at Dickinson and Clear Springs at Katy Taylor at 12:00pm. Stratford at Clear Brook (Challenger/Columbia Stadium) and Port Neches-Groves at Texas City are each 7:00 pm starts, while Crosby at Santa Fe is at 7:30pm.
College football is also on the schedule with #15 Iowa State at #20 Texas kicking off at 11:00am. The game can be seen on ABC-13.
SATURDAY: The only girls’ high school basketball game of the weekend tips off at 1:00pm when Cy Creek visits state-ranked Clear Springs.
In boys’ high school basketball, Clear Brook at Fort Bend Austin starts at 1:00pm, followed by Cy Springs at Galveston Ball at 2:00pm. La Porte at Clear Creek and Texas City at Pearland each start at 3:00pm.
The sole high school football game will see Clear Creek on the road at Katy
Seven Lakes, which will start at 12:00pm.
Three college football games are on the slate with #24 Tulsa at Houston (ESPNU) kicking off at 11:00am. UTEP at Rice (ESPN3) starts at 12:00pm, while #5 Texas A&M hosts defending national champion LSU at 6:00pm (ESPN).
