Not one to simply relax and enjoy retirement, Aisha Webb looked for something to keep her busy. What she found was a project that has given her joy and satisfaction while also providing friends and neighbors with a way to clean clothes.

Webb makes laundry detergent and bath wash from her home in Texas City. Over the past three months, she has found a sense of peace in creating what she lovingly calls Mother’s Blend Soaps.

“Oh, I enjoy it a lot,” said Webb on Friday, prior to her going to the Texas City Police Department to contribute several containers of her products as part of an effort to help Louisiana victims of last month’s Hurricane Ida. “I’m overwhelmed by the blessing of being able to those who are in need.

“I had wished I could find someone to give the soap away to,” she added. “When I found out they would allow me to contribute to their drive, I was clapping with joy.”

The process of making her products is methodical, yet doesn’t take a lot of time, courtesy of the fact Webb uses a pair of 5-gallon buckets to create her magic.

“It usually takes about an hour for me to make enough to fill 10-12 containers,” she said. “The most important thing is that I have to make sure the heat is right for it to be successful.”

Webb, who worked at Goodwill for over a decade before retiring, says she could make even more if she had more containers to fill them.

To purchase a half-gallon of detergent runs around $3 to $5. “I’m not doing this to make lots of money,” said Webb. “I do it because I love doing so, and I love to help others.”
