The Ball High School Army JROTC (Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps) will be hosting its annual Turkey Shoot Thursday, November 18, 2021, at Ball High School from 8:00am to 6:00pm. A turkey from Arlan’s Market in Galveston will be given away every half hour.
The Turkey Shoot is a favorite tradition at Ball High for JROTC cadets and alumni. For a $5 donation, individuals are given a paper target and three rounds at the target using a competition-grade air rifle. The highest score every thirty minutes wins a turkey.
The Turkey Shoot is the main fundraiser for the JROTC and allows the program to purchase uniforms, equipment and send cadets to summer programs. The annual competition dates back to the 1960s. Last year the Turkey Shoot was canceled due to COVID-19 protocol, but this year it is open to the public once again. So come out and support the cadets, and you might just take home a turkey for Thanksgiving! Galveston ISD is a public school district in Texas, established in 1884, that serves nearly 7,000 students.
