Thanksgiving week means a host of early afternoon boys’ and girls’ high school basketball, so if you have the down time, go out and peruse a schedule that has two state-ranked teams. The week kicks off with a pair of former local high school football stars facing the Texans while the Cowboys and Chiefs play in a game that we could see again in February.

Sunday: The Texans head to Tennessee to face a Titans team that has won six straight while also benefiting from the contributions from a pair of former Galveston County football stars. Texas City alum D’Onta Foreman has become the Titans’ lead back in the wake of losing All-Pro Derrick Henry, while former Clear Springs star Marcus Johnson has filled in admirably for injured star receiver Julio Jones. KHOU-11 will have the game live at 12:00pm.

In what could serve as a Super Bowl preview, the Cowboys visit the Chiefs in a game featuring two of the league’s best pivots (Canadian phrase for quarterback) in Dallas’ Dak Prescott and Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes. Fox-26 will have this 5-star matchup beginning at 3:25pm.

Monday: Thanksgiving week means a front-loaded schedule of high school hoops. The girls’ schedule will start with Hitchcock hosting its annual Thanksgiving Classic, while Katy Tompkins at Clear Brook, Clear Falls at George Ranch, North Shore at Clear Springs, and Dickinson at Summer Creek each begin at 1:00pm. Texas City at South Houston tips off at 1:30pm, while Galveston Ball at Galena Park begins at 7:00pm.

In high school boys’ basketball, state-ranked Hitchcock at Columbia gets going at 10:00am, followed by Santa Fe at Sweeny at 11:30am. State-ranked La Marque visits Clear Springs at 2:30pm, while Clear Falls at Lutheran South begins at 3:00pm.

The Rockets continue their east coast swing with a visit to the Celtics beginning at 6:30pm. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest starts coverage with the pregame show at 6:00pm.

Tuesday: The girls’ basketball slate starts with C.E. King at Clear Brook, Clear Creek at Katy Taylor, Clear Falls at Mayde Creek, Clear Springs at George Ranch, and Galveston Ball at Goose Creek Memorial at 1:00pm. Santa Fe at Friendswood and Texas City at La Porte each start at 1:30pm.

High school boys’ basketball will have Needville at Santa Fe at 12:30pm, followed by Friendswood at Clear Creek at 1:00pm. State-ranked La Marque at Galveston Ball and Texas City at Dickinson each tip off at 2:00pm, with Clear Falls at Sam Houston starting at 3:00pm.
