
Hitchcock’s boys’ basketball team is the story in local athletics, but it doesn’t mean the week won’t be busy. In fact, it’s very busy with a host of events, with the Ruben Jordan Relays at Clear Creek High School the featured event.
Wednesday: Texas City’s softball team hosts Baytown Sterling for a 6:30pm start.
Water polo is also on the docket as Galveston Ball meets Texas City at the Doyle Natatorium beginning at 6:00pm.
Texas City’s girls’ golf team will be at Newport Golf Course for a meet hosted by Crosby.
The underachieving Lakers visit Toyota Center for a clash against a Rockets team playing out the string. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest starts coverage at 6:30pm with the pregame show leading into the tip at 7:00pm.
Thursday: High school baseball teams will be tourney focused, with Clear Brook and Clear Creek at the Goose Creek Varsity Tournament, while Clear Falls and Santa Fe compete in the Baytown Sterling Tournament. Clear Springs takes part in the C.E. King/Channelview Tourney, with Dickinson competing in the Crosby Tournament.
While its boys’ basketball team is competing in the 3A state semifinals, Hitchcock’s track and field takes part at the Van Vleck meet as they look to build their chances for a potential trip to state this May.
Clear Brook and Clear Springs will each participate in the Battlefield Tourney that will see a number of the area’s water polo teams in action through Saturday.
Friday: The high school soccer regular season inches toward its conclusion with Huffman-Hargrave at La Marque starting the boys’ schedule at 7:00pm. Clear Falls at Clear Creek, Clear Springs at Dickinson, Baytown Sterling at Friendswood, Santa Fe at La Porte and Texas City at Goose Creek Memorial start at 7:30pm.
The girls’ portion of the soccer schedule has Huffman-Hargrave at La Marque at 5:00pm, followed by Clear Creek at Clear Falls, Dickinson at Clear Springs, Friendswood at Baytown Sterling, La Porte at Santa Fe and Goose Creek Memorial at Texas City at 7:30pm.
Track and field warms up with Clear Brook (boys’) at the Bayshore Olympics in La Porte. Clear Brook (girls’), Clear Springs, Dickinson, Friendswood, and La Marque are each at the Ruben Jordan Relays at Clear Creek. Texas City is at the Knights Relays at Clear Falls.
There is high school baseball on the schedule with Galveston Ball at Baytown Lee and Manvel at Texas City each at 6:00pm, followed by Friendswood at Goose Creek Memorial at 7:00pm.
The high school softball slate has Columbia at La Marque at 5:00pm, with Clear Brook at Clear Creek, Clear Falls at Clear Springs and Texas City at Santa Fe at 6:30pm. Dickinson at Brazoswood gets going at 6:45pm.
The day wraps up with the Rockets hosting the Mavericks at 7:00pm. AT&T Sportsnet Southwest has the game live following the pregame show at 6:30pm.
Saturday: The day’s only game will have Galveston O’Connell at La Marque at 12:00pm as the two softball teams collide in the chill of a surprise cold front.
