TEXAS CITY, TX – Solving riddles, following clues and decoding hidden messages will lead
to one person winning $500, along with a high-tech pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses.
The City of Texas City has launched Scavenger Hunt III: 409 Protocol, featuring a series of
clues that will take competitors throughout the city over the course of several weeks,
culminating in a race to the finish on 409 Day (April 9).
There are prizes for the top three finishers:
- First Place: $500 and a pair of Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarer Sunglasses
- Second Place: $300
- Third Place: $200
In addition, one of the special agents – as the competitors in this year’s spy-themed hunt
are referred to – will be an instant winner of a pair of Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarer Sunglasses.
To enter the competition, participants only need to pick up a classified field packet at City
Hall (2000 Texas Ave), Moore Memorial Public Library (1701 9th Ave N), or at Cook Ford, who
generously donated the two pairs of glasses as the sponsor of the event.
In the packet, specials agents will find mission objectives, an instruction sheet and an
outline of how to determine their special agent code name by using the first letter of their
name, along with their birth month.
There will also be a special sheet, showing a truck with a red, hidden message. Agents will
take that clue to Cook Ford (2600 Palmer Hwy), where they will be given a pair of special
decoder glasses to determine if they are the lucky winner of the second pair of Ray-Ban
sunglasses. If so, they will be awarded the additional “mission gear” on the spot.
The Scavenger Hunt is open to all ages and can be completed as a family or group. Most of
the clues can be done at any time; very few are date specific. There is no cost to
participate. For more information, please visit www.texascitytx.gov.
