As a storm with tornado watches and warnings chased throughout the Upper Texas Coastal Prairie region, the Knights of Momus parade rolled through the streets of Galveston on Saturday. Revelers came from great distances to enjoy a celebration, and Galveston and the weather did not disappoint. That was mostly the case until right around 8:00 pm. Then the weather took a turn, and rain was dropping out of the sky as though buckets were being poured from heaven.

The parade was winding through Galveston’s entertainment district when the rain and wind swept across the island. It was a short refreshing storm.
I was reminded of years ago, poised out on the high school football field with my baton raised into the air when a clap of thunder burst out as the drum major was leading the band to begin our half-time performance. We proceeded with our show, just as we exited the field, the heavens opened and rain poured out.

The several decades ago, was also short and refreshing.
Baton twirlers with shiny white boots never go out of style and will twirl their batons through the storm with a smile.
