Galveston County Museum in Galveston invites the public to view a new temporary exhibit, Texas America250, on loan from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) through June 30, 2026.
Highlighting historically significant Texas Treasures from TSLAC’s collections, Texas America250 exhibit is traveling around the state. The Texas America250 exhibit highlights historically significant Texas Treasures from the State Archives, encouraging all Americans to explore the story of the Lone Star State over the past 250 years. From Spanish missions to the space race, the landscape, culture, economy and people of Texas have played essential roles in the development of the United States.
“We are so excited to bring this traveling exhibit to the community,” said Jodi Wright-Gidley, director of the museum. “The Galveston County Museum was established 50 years ago. Galveston businesswoman and philanthropist Mary Moody Northen worked with former Galveston County Judge Holbrook to establish our local history museum. So, as America celebrates it’s 250th, we feel connected to the story of both Texas and the country. This traveling exhibit is a great way for Texans of all ages to learn more about the state’s role in U.S. history.”
This traveling exhibit is on view in the lobby of the Galveston County courthouse at 722 Moody through June 30, 2026. Visitors are encouraged to visit on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, 10 to 4, so that they can also visit the Galveston County Museum, also in that building.
This project is made possible by a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services.
