TCISD Families,
I cannot express enough how alarmed we are at the number of students who are
making threats regarding school violence. Central office administrators are going
to begin planning some school assemblies for students and also a town hall meeting
for parents and the community. We will update you when all of the dates and
details are completed.
In the meantime, please remind your children that if they threaten to cause harm
to the school or people in the school, they will be arrested, charged, and prosecuted
to the fullest extent of the law. This is not something we want to do but threatening
to kill others is serious. Please know that TCISD takes all threats seriously
and that the District Attorney does too. There were two felony arrests this week in
our district. This issue is impacting schools all over our state daily.
I want to refer you to the Mental Health America website so that you can get a
guide on leading a discussion with your kids about school safety. The site also gives
examples of behaviors
that can be signs that
a child needs professional
help.
If you think your
child could be a danger
to themselves or
others, please contact
a school counselor,
your child’s physician,
or call MHA toll free at
1-800-969-6642.
Sincerely,
Rodney Cavness,
Ed.D.
