The accomplishments of eight Dickinson High School alumni will be recognized next month when the Dickinson ISD Alumni Association hosts its annual Distinguished Alumni Awards and Dickinson High School Athletic Hall of Honor. The banquet is scheduled for January 12 at the Gilruth Center’s Destiny Ballroom at NASA Johnson Space Center. The evening will begin with a social at 6:00pm followed by dinner at 6:30pm. Tickets are $40 per person and can be purchased at Mackey Mechanical Services no later than Friday, January 4. RSVP no later than Friday, January 4th These prestigious awards recognize Dickinson ISD graduates who have excelled in sports, their field of expertise or made significant contributions to their communities or through their chosen professions. The Dickinson ISD Alumni Association is celebrating its ninth year of the Distinguished Alumni Awards, while the Dickinson High School Hall of Honor is inducting its 18th class of former DHS Athletes who have excelled in sports. Several years ago, the two organizations joined together to recognize both groups at the annual banquet. This year’s Distinguished Alumni Award recipients include Dennis Cooke (Class of 1968), Jay Rogers (Class of 1970), Joe Willhelm (Class of 1971) and Greg Garland (Class of 1975). Honorees for the Dickinson High School Athletic Hall of Honor include Basketball Coach Bobby Knotts (1984-2001), Wendy Irvin Shelter (Class of 2000), John Fleener (Class of 2000) and Caleb Butler (Class of 2009).
