“At one point, all my money was gone. I didn’t know who I was, and my identity was hazy. I was no longer sure what I was doing with my life.” Brandi Toatley was chasing fame and validation singing in everywhere from noted nightclubs to sketchy speakeasies as a gifted young vocalist. She grew weary of seeing the rawness of life on the road. Brandi knew she was not living her best life.
She knew she needed to return to the roots of her faith.
Brandi grew up in the church to parents that were Christian ministers. Originally from the Baltimore area, she began singing as early as 6 years old. Brandi remembers recording her voice on cassette decks as a young girl. She was intrigued by music and with sound. She wanted to sing. However, Brandi struggled to find validation for her gift as a youth in the church. This void took Brandi on a journey, which ultimately led to the discovery of her sound and the formation of her Christian faith. Brandi now uses her music to allegorize the importance of her journey with all of its summits and valleys.
Brandi Toatley now lives in Texas City. She serves on the worship team at her local church and is the founder of “The Gospel for Every Person,” a non-profit organization that exists to inspire communities with the good news of the Christian faith. Brandi has released two studio albums: “Hymns of Worship” and “My Heart in Worship.” The studio releases are excellent albums, but they do not fully capture the value of experiencing Brandi’s gifting during a live performance.
Brandi’s musical sound and vocal prowess have been influenced by the likes of Tasha Cobbs, Rita Springer, and Shana Wilson. When listening to “Hymns of Worship,” you can hear the sincerity of her heart amid her strong rousing voice. Her ability to remove the lines of what is contemporary and what is traditional Christian music is evident during her live performances. She demonstrates vocal quality but accentuates the lyrical value of the hymns in a multigenerational way. “My Heart in Worship” has moments that can only be described as chain-breaking. The experience is sincere and familiar.
Brandi Toatley invites Galveston County to hear her story as she performs July 12th, July 26th and August 9th at the Nessler Civic Center in Texas City at 6:30 pm. You can find Brandi’s music on her website or subscribe to her Youtube music channel. On her Youtube channel, you will find original music, music videos, and worship covers. Brandi is just getting started, and the response has been tremendous so far.
