LA MARQUE HIGH SCHOOL celebrated its 2020 Homecoming on Thursday night, naming Damarcus Nelson and Sa’Nai Taylor as their King and Queen.

Nelson had a busy night as he served in his role at running back for the Cougars. He rushed for 23 yards on six carries to help La Marque hold on to defeat visiting Wharton 17-14 at TCISD Stadium.

Joining Nelson on the King’s Court were Keshaun Mason-Robinson, Shaun Moore and Jauron Reid Jr. Reid also contributed to the Cougars’ win, catching a 48-yard touchdown pass from Armond Robinson along with rushing for nine yards on three carries.

La Marque’s Queen’s Court included Emauri Baker, Ahnyah Durand and DaRielle Phillips.

Texas City had its Homecoming ceremonies on Friday as the Stingarees played host to rival Santa Fe.

Both schools were limited in what they could do leading up to their respective Homecoming games as social distancing concerns kept them from traditional events.
