(Texas City, TX) — Following approval by the Board of Trustees (BOT) on Aug. 26, 2024, College of the Mainland (COM) has selected the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) to conduct a national search for its next president.
With a proven track record in assisting community colleges across the nation, ACCT will lead the search to identify the ideal candidate to succeed Dr. Warren Nichols, who will be retiring from his role as president in July 2025.
The BOT will establish a presidential search committee comprising representatives from the College and community. This committee will work closely with ACCT to ensure a thorough and transparent process, gathering input from college and community stakeholders to define the qualities and experience desired in the next president.
COM will continue to provide regular updates throughout the presidential search process. Key milestones include the selection of the search committee, public forums and the development of the presidential profile.
The BOT accepted Nichols’ notice of retirement, effective Aug. 1, 2025, during the Aug. 26 general monthly meeting.
Since joining College of the Mainland in 2017, Nichols has implemented numerous student success initiatives, leading transformative facility improvements and record enrollment growth. Notably, he led the passage of a $162.5 million bond election in November 2018 and a $250 million bond election in May 2023, resulting in significant campus developments including the construction of the STEAM, Administration and Industrial Careers Building, with more projects currently in progress.
