It’s that time of year again, as the summer reading program was a huge success at Moore Memorial Public Library, located on Palmer Highway in Texas City. The theme of the reading program this year was Carnival of Reading.

The library put on an event to launch the summer reading program which included inflatables, popcorn, games, face painting, and ice cream. It was a huge success.

The Moore Memorial Library was very busy all summer. The library hosted 64 programs with an attendance of 1,692 people. During the summer reading program, 119 active readers read 8,400 hours. That’s an amazing turnout. In the children’s division, every 30 books or (five hours) earned the child a free book and an entry into the prize drawing. Teens earned a free book for the first 10 hours read and both teens and adults earned an entry into the prize drawing for each 10 hours read.

The Grand Prizes were three raffle baskets donated by the Friends of Moore Memorial Public Library. All three baskets contained fun activities, books, light snacks, as well as gift cards.. Other prizes awarded were gift cards to local eateries. The winners of all prizes for each age group were randomly selected.

The friends of the library are hosting a meet and greet on Saturday, September 16 at 2 PM at the library to discuss upcoming events and volunteer opportunities. Members of the friends of the library and prospective members are all welcome. Coffee, tea and pastries will be served.
